Description
WICE World Watch (formerly the Current Events Forum) continues in partnership with The American Library in Paris. It is a platform for experts to inspire thought and exchange on dynamics in today's world.
"Water and War"
Water is central to all human communities and its allocation, development and management have provoked conflict for millennia. Today, more than ever, water resources are under mounting pressure from a myriad of factors. Debates and disputes surface continually between users and across watersheds, ecosystems, political jurisdictions and increasingly crowded cities.
Are wars really going to be fought over water? Can we move water resources management away from its inherent conflict potential toward cooperative behaviors? This forum will present the current situation and address the issues raised. Join us for an evening of learning and exchange on the dynamics of an increasingly scarce resource.
About Léna Salamé
Léna Salamé is the Project Coordinator for UNESCO’s program on water conflicts and cooperation. She is a regular speaker at international and national events on issues related to shared water resources, international conflicts and cooperation, as well as dispute resolution techniques. A trained mediator, Ms. Salamé develops research and educational tools for increasing trust in the management of shared water resources, with the aim of replacing and preempting conflict with cooperation, development and peace.
