Description
Known by many economists as the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s, the banking collapse that started in 2007 still leaves us with many unanswered questions and ongoing problems. Major institutions such as Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns and Merrill Lynch have collapsed, governments are burdened with substantial debt (US – $1 trillion, France – €33 billion), global wealth and purchasing power have shrunk and consumer confidence is severely damaged.
How did this happen? Many culprits have been blamed, from unreliable ratings agencies to unchecked capitalist greed, from the failure of regulatory authorities to the hubris of hedge fund managers. Come and find out what really happened ‘behind the scenes’. How did the world’s economy get here, and where could it go?
Speaker
Christian Lemaire (MBA Wharton), Director of Finance, Strategy and Risk, Specialist Financial Services, Crédit Agricole SA
