Description

Is the future of Africa mired in strife and poverty or are peace and prosperity on the horizon? Some argue that wars, corruption and inequality are intractable problems. Others point to a new momentum, led by economic development and better government. Where is the continent headed? Join us for a conversation between two experts with decades of first-hand experience in Africa as they discuss the politics, economics and development of the world's most complex region.

Speakers
Serge Michaïlof has been involved in development issues for over 40 years, holding senior posts in the Agence Française de Développement and the World Bank. Today, he lectures on development aid at Sciences Po Paris and is a regular consultant to the World Bank, aid institutions and numerous governments. He was educated at HEC and MIT, holding a degree in sociology and a doctorate in economics.

A career diplomat, Philippe Selz held ambassadorships in Haiti and Africa, and postings to Brazil, the UK and the US. As well, in France, he was Deputy Director for Central and Eastern Africa in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Deputy Director of the Cabinet for the Minister for Aid and Development. He holds a masters degree from Sciences Po Paris and a Master of Law from the University of Paris.

The American Library in Paris is a focal point for exceptional programs and performances designed to inspire, inform and enrich the community. Free programs are presented @The Library in conjunction with community organizations such as WICE. WICE World Watch is a platform for the exchange of ideas and information on dynamics in today’s world.
