Jim Bittermann and Jean Lesieur look across the ocean at the upcoming contests for two presidencies and explore the impact of the elections on French-American relations.

jim-bittermann-cnn_285Jim Bittermann is a longstanding Paris-based CNN senior correspondent who reported on many of the decade's major international stories during the past decade. He has been a panel moderator at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and a member of the jury for the French film competition Les Lumières de Paris. Since 1998, Bittermann has been adjunct associate professor of communications at The American University of Paris, teaching courses in broadcast news and documentary film, among other subjects.

lesieur1Jean Lesieur, former senior editor at France 24, was an editorial adviser to the executive board of the Hachette Filipacchi Magazine Group in New York and Paris. He was also a foreign correspondent and senior editor at Le Point (1977 to 1989) and L’Express (1989 to 1995). A graduate of Columbia University’s Journalism School (1974), he is an occasional contributor to the op-ed pages of The Providence Journal. He is the author of two books : L’Affaire Carolyn Black, a novel, and,  under a pen name, a memoir that was awarded two literary prizes in France.


The American Library in Paris is a focal point for exceptional programs and performances designed to inspire, inform and enrich the community. These programs which are free and open to the public are presented @The Library in conjunction with community organizations such as WICE.
