Description
Get an overview of over 200 years of African-American history in Paris with a focus on the 20th and 21st centuries. Learn about statesmen and soilders as well as artists and entertainers, and discover the story behind the myth of a colorblind France. Then experience a taste of contemporary Black Paris. The presentation is followed by a question and answer period.
About Monique Wells
Dr. Wells writes and edits articles on many aspects of life in Paris for the Discover Paris!, Soul of America, and Bonjour Paris websites. Her articles on the African-American experience in Paris have been published by the International Herald Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, France Today, This City Paris and other American newspapers, magazines and Web publications. One of these articles was published in the anthology France, A Love Story in 2004. Wells has presented her lecture "Black Paris and the Myth of a Colorblind France" at Barnard College, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the Houston Public Library, and Alliance Française de San Francisco as well as for numerous private groups in Paris.
