Description
The North Star project was shot during the last Festival America in 2008. Festival America, which is held every 2 years in
Vincennes, France, invites North American authors (from central America to Canada) to present their latest work, bringing together writers who weigh up our planet and grasp its contours. Their works literally take on the world and whether they vibrate with echoes from Africa, Europe, Asia, South or North America, they always end up telling us about ourselves, as if we were invited to an extraordinary blending of cultures and identities, and to a "crossing of the minds".
In 2008 I organized a photo shoot to take portraits of around 20 authors. During my encounter with these amazing individuals I asked them two questions: Which idea, thought or image remains in your mind from your last book? and Which idea, thought or saying has guided you through life as did the north star for sailors? Discover their portraits, replies and samples of their work in this exhibit.

About the Artist
Brought up on four different continents (Africa, North and South America, plus Europe), Jérôme Eagland-Conquy graduated from the British Film Institute of London as well as The Art Institute of Fort-Lauderdale (photography) in Florida. Attracted by the city of lights, Jérôme moved to Paris in 1997. Since then, he has worked across the world and has been published in numerous magazines including Elle and Le Monde. Not only does he shoot documentary style photos, but also portraits and still life. As Rauschenberg once said: "I am not interested in what I can do but rather what I cannot do or what I think I can't." A summary of Jérôme Eagland-Conquy work can be seen on his website.
