The Diary of the Artist as an Amoeba

Rob Dunlavey will discuss his artistic oeuvre with an emphasis on illustration, sketchbooks and the techniques and motivations behind the artwork in his exhibit at The American Library. Crystal Cities is an ongoing series of 160 or more paintings and drawings of fantasy cathedrals and cities. The series also includes paper sculptures complete with citizens and royalty! What compels Rob to make these images over and over?

My background is in the fine arts (sculpture and painting) but my 20 year career as an illustrator has changed what Art is for me. What looks like illustrations for children's books have their start in my attempts to makes sense of the world, the people I meet and my attempt to somehow express my appreciation for both. I am writing and mostly illustrating  children's books now after a 20 year career illustrating for many other types of clients.
