Description
The Reluctant Reader: Children with Reading Difficulties
Reading difficulties come in all shapes and sizes so to speak. Carol Rose, a clinical psychologist and reading specialist, has conducted research and worked extensively and successfully with children in France exhibiting a wide range of difficulties, from the non reader to the slow reader. She believes that how a child organizes his learning in respect to the demands of reading is unique to each child. Thus understanding the reading process of the individual with difficulties is primordial for successful remediation to occur.
Ms. Rose believes that true dyslexia is most rare and should be used as a label only in the presence of irrefutable proof. She will begin her talk by discussing certain constants of reading so as to foster a better understanding of what is involved in the reading task and from there will gear her presentation to the needs of those in the audience.
