About Christopher Buckley

Christopher Buckley is a novelist and satirist known for his Washington novels The White House Mess, Thank You for Smoking, No Way to Treat a First Lady, Supreme Courtship Little Green Men, and Florence of Arabia, and for his comic essays in The New Yorker and other magazines.

The only son of conservative lion William F. Buckley, Jr., and his wife Patricia, Christopher Buckley made headlines in 2008 when he was fired as a columnist at the magazine his father founded, National Review, when he endorsed Barack Obama for the presidency in The Daily Beast. In 2009, he published a critically admired memoir of his parents, Losing Mum and Pup. Buckley, born in 1952, graduated from Portsmouth Abbey School and Yale University. His first book, Steaming to Bamboola, recounted his experiences in the merchant marine. He has worked as managing editor of Esquire, chief speechwriter for Vice President George H. W. Bush, and editor in chief of Forbes FYI magazine.
