Description

Word for Word is back!

islanders_01_3178smThe American Library is delighted to welcome back the celebrated San Francisco theatrical troupe that puts great American short stories on stage - word for word. Returning to Paris for the sixteenth year, Word for Word presents The Islanders, a short story written by acclaimed novelist Andrew Sean Greer and directed by Sheila Balter.

In this moving and humorous look at the bonds of true friendship, two old friends reunite for a trip to Ireland, where the beauty, mystery and danger of the trip lead to a deeper understanding of their lifelong connection.

This special 50-minute performance will be accompanied by live music. The author will be on hand to answer questions from the audience and sign copies of his latest books, The Story of a Marriage and The Confessions of Max Tivoli, which will be available for purchase that evening courtesy of the Red Wheelbarrow.

Read more about The Islanders in the New Yorker and visit the Word for Word France Tour page for details on additional performance dates & locations. Photo of Stephanie Hunt by Mark Leialoha.

The single performance is a joint fundraiser for the Library and Word for Word. And please join us at the Library after the show for a glass of wine or juice and a chance to meet the actors and crew.

Due to possible no-shows, some places may be available on the evening of the performance on a first-come, first-seated basis. A line for entry will form starting in front of the theater's door. Seating will open at 7:30pm (19h30). Suggested donation: €20 (€10 students).
