Description
This exhibit is a collection of 33 photographs of a city that is familiar to all of us. As the title suggests this series of images communicates everyday city life in the quartiers not normally featured in the iconic imagery of postcards.
I wanted to explore the lesser-known areas of the city, so I would emerge from a metro station and meander through the streets in the immediate vicinity. I loved the early morning light that cast elongated shadows of shoppers in the streets. I waited patiently for shadows to pass a wall. I saw a boot on the steps and imagined how it came to be left there. Nothing in this documentary series has been staged. It is Paris as I found it over the course of a year. In documenting the city through the changing seasons and arrondissements it became apparent to me that the city is timeless - neither the clothes, the architecture nor the graffiti reveal when the photos were taken. It also became apparent that I enjoy the process of seeing differently and the resulting photographs communicate my discovery that we can all learn how to see.
This exhibition will open with a special talk by the artist on Tuesday April 7th. After this event, access to the exhibition will be free to Library members, as well as users with a Library day or week pass. Visit the membership page for details.
