Description
Letters about Literature is an annual reading promotion program of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. Each year, the Library of Congress invites children and teens to write a letter to an author (of fiction, non-fiction or poetry - an author dead or alive), who has changed their view of themselves or the world at large. Contest entries are submitted through libraries around the United States (and now Paris).
The American Library in Paris is pleased to announce our first year of participation, and we’re organizing several workshops to help kids and teens write their own letters: Level 1 (Grades 4-6 / CM1-6eme) on Saturday 3 December, Level 2 (Grades 7-8 / 5eme–4eme) on Saturday10 December and a special Teen Night for Level 3 (Grades 9-12 / 3eme-Terminale) on Friday 16 December.
All children and teens who wish to participate are invited to submit a letter to through The American Library in Paris. We will then be selecting a winner in from each age group before sending the entries to the national contest in the United States.
All participants will be invited to celebrate with us at an awards ceremony and party on Saturday 21 January where we will recognize each individual who has submitted a letter. The writers of the winning letters selected by the American Library in Paris will each receive a selection of brand new award-winning books, as well as a set of writing tools to keep you going.
The deadline for submissions is Wednesday 4 January 2012 at 19h00. Letters should be submitted to the youth librarian at the American Library in Paris. All entries should be typed and should include the first and last name of the child or teen, school grade, as well as an email address for contacting the participant or parent of the participant.
