Description

images_of_blacks_in_western_art_2On ancient Greek vases, behind the altars of medieval European churches, and in French Impressionist paintings, black people are portrayed in Western art as saints, sinners, heroes, and villains -- in a number and variety to astonish even scholars. This presentation will not only delve into the perspectives of the artist, but will explore the images' hidden meanings and how each lies open to the viewers interpretation.
