Orel Protopopescu will talk about how she follows her own impulses, no matter how strange some of them may seem to her at first, whether she's writing a book or poem. She finds pleasure in playing with words and not knowing exactly where they are taking her. She likes to surprise herself as well as her readers.

Orel Protopopescu is an award-winning author and poet, has been published by major houses. A Thousand Peaks, Poems from China (with Siyu Liu) was selected for the New York Public Library’s Books for the Teen Age, 2003 list.  Her newest book, Two Sticks, is on Bank Street College of Education’s “Best Children’s Books of  the Year” 2008 list.
